During the school year, it’s tough to keep a household running smoothly. Between extracurricular activities, homework, chores and everything else, it’s a wonder that we have time for anything else?
But there are plenty of sources to get great information about the challenges of managing a household, and how to overcome them. What’s the secret to keeping a house full of kids happy & healthy? There’s not one individual manual, so you have to look around a bit. But we’ve done some legwork for you; we’ve compiled a handful of the best healthy family blogs – most by moms, but there’s also one from a cavedad, too – that provide diet tips, the latest lifestyle “hacks,” shopping advice and a thousand other cool, relevant topics.
And these blogs excel well beyond the school year, so make sure to bookmark this collection of web gems. Here are 5 must-visit family health blogs:
The Busy Mom’s Diet
Ideal for the professional, on-the-move mom, this blog combines how-to content, exercise tips, healthy recipes and much more into a pleasant, positive reading experience. Since mid-2012, TBMD ranks as one of the top blogs for healthy families, and the site is updated frequently.
This site has rapidly grown in the past few years – besides the near-daily written content, the Paleo Parents are also part of a popular, top-ranked podcast. More diet-focused than anything, the blog has the occasional lifestyle tip as well. An excellent resource for parents looking to find a healthier family diet. It seems like every week, the Paleo Parents offer up a creative take on school lunches, snacks and more.
Mark’s Daily Apple
While we’re on the ancestral health theme, we gotta mention Mark’s Daily Apple. Full of nutritional info, recipes, exercise tips and more, this site is the Holy Grail for the recent explosion of “caveman” and paleo-themed outlets. Mark’s schedule follows a fairly regular pattern, so expect success stories (those who’ve benefitted from embracing the paleo lifestyle) on Fridays, tasty & healthy recipes on Saturdays, and (our favorite) on Sundays, a hodgepodge of miscellany from around the interwebs – the latest health research, “conventional wisdom” health advice debunking, off-the-wall hyperlinks and more.
Happy Being Healthy
This blog’s name says it all. Authored by a mom of 6 (!), Happy Being Healthy offers inspirational , realistic advice for keeping a crazy household not only on the tracks, but heading in the right direction, too! Exercise pointers, optimal eating habits, the ups and downs of raising a half-dozen kids – it’s all here, and well worth a read!
Nurturing goes natural. The Grass-Fed Mama takes a lean & (not-so) mean approach to blogging, with excellent recipes, health tips & tricks and much more. Eating well can be pricy (grass-fed beef, organic dairy, etc.), but this blog also shows you how to eat better on a limited budget.
We hope you’ll enjoy these healthy family blogs. Along with diet, exercise and indispensable parent pointers, a healthy family can also benefit from a reliable, community-based immediate care center. Urgent Care Extra offers flu shots, physicals, regular medical attention and (of course) superior walk-in care for a variety of emergencies that aren’t life-threatening.
